The cuisine of Meghalaya is unique and different than that of any other state of north-east. It is mainly based upon rice and spicy meat and fish. Different kinds of goats, pigs, ducks and cows are used for their meat. Even bamboo shoots make up a large part of the cuisine of the state. Fried bamboo shoots and pickled bamboo shoots are both important recipes from the state.
Bamboo shoots are one of the favorite dishes of the Garos. Bamboo shoots are rich in nutrient values and are said to be healthy recipe from the state. It is also served in other parts of northeast India.
